Change to Student Immunization Policy

DoDEA, in alignment with the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, is committed to easing the challenges of military families moving between duty stations. For families transitioning to a new duty station and enrolling in DoDEA schools for the first time, there is now a provision, allowing a 30-calendar day grace period for parents/students to meet immunization requirements after school enrollment. The intent of this provision is to avoid any interruption in the transferring student’s education. The health and the welfare of all students is a top priority for DoDEA. The Department of Defense sets immunization requirements for DoDEA schools based on recommendations from the Center of Disease Control. Compliance with immunization requirements greatly reduces the risk of public health issues. School nurses and local military medical treatment facilities stand ready to assist parents in meeting these requirements promptly.

Reef Project Reef Project

Students at Bolden Elementary/Middle School participate in an oyster reef project that will naturally stabilize shorelines and prevent erosion at the Laurel Bay Boat Ramp.  These reefs also provide food and habitat for other natural systems and help keep our waterways clean.  A single oyster can filter about two and a half gallons of water per hour, improving water quality & clarity.

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) has begun the process of developing a new Community Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2012-2016, which will be critical in refining the mission, vision, guiding principles, goals, and initiatives that DoDEA will undertake to deliver a high quality, student-centered education.

DoDEA is interested in the thoughts and opinions of not only parents, teachers, military leadership, and individuals directly impacted by DoDEA schools, but of those that attend non-DoDEA schools and serve military families and their children. Topics of interest to DoDEA are the consistency of communication from schools and to identify possible strategies to improve support for students and families through transitions and how to support these students, as well as feedback on the curriculum, instruction and assessment in DoDEA schools. The site to provide feedback is http://cspfeedback.dodea.edu/.
