Teacher of the Year Application-2013

tell us

At the beginning of the school year, DoDEA introduced a new attendance policy similar to those found in most school districts in the U.S. The intent of the policy is to strike a fair and consistent balance between the academic needs of students and the unique needs of military families. To gauge the levels of awareness, effectiveness and satisfaction with the new DoDEA attendance policy, DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba has developed a voluntary, anonymous poll for all stakeholders—students, parents, employees, military leaders, etc. The online poll runs through May 31 and takes only five minutes to complete. The data from the poll will be analyzed to determine if refinements and improvements are needed. We’re listening so please tell us what you think of the new DoDEA attendance policy: https://www.research.net/s/789HM97

National School Counseling Week

Do you know what your child’s School Counselor does?  Your school counselor provides a comprehensive guidance program aimed at helping your child to succeed in school.  This is done through monthly guidance lessons focusing on necessary skills such as learning skills, conflict solving, dealing with bullies, and handling emotions.  There are also different small groups being offered such as using self control in the classroom and readiness skills for learning.  The second grade classes get a time at the end of the first and second quarters to examine their progress and set goals to increase their achievement in school.  In addition, new students are welcomed and groups are coordinated for students who have parents away.
Have you talked to your child’s school counselor lately? She is available to speak with you on the phone or face to face for a conference regarding your child’s progress at school. She is also the case manager for our school’s student support team which is a group that gets together to problem solve when there is a concern regarding a student. However, she can meet with parents at any time.  Please feel free to call the school if you have any needs. At Elliott, we are conducting monthly parenting programs starting in to help parents with common concerns regarding their children.  Please check the newsletters to find details.
February 6-10, 2012 is National School Counselor’s Week.  Our theme this year is “Helping students to be Brilliant.” The school counselor appreciates the chance to work with your child and you to bring out the brilliance in them.

DoDEA Asks for Input on Draft Community Strategic Plan

feedback

We welcome feedback on our progress thus far in drafting the 2012-2016 CSP from DoDEA employees, parents, students, and the Department of Defense (DoD) community (educators in military-connected school districts, the military community, etc.).  Your input will be used to make final revisions to the CSP and to ensure it reflects the knowledge and beliefs of the worldwide DoDEA community.  http://cspfeedback.dodea.edu/
