DDESS Puerto Rico Schools Public Announcement

Continuing its commitment to educational excellence, DDESS Puerto Rico District is pleased to announce that it will once again be a participant in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). ALL parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this "kids first" program which offers healthy food alternatives for everyone visiting the schools' cafeterias, as well as free and reduced meal prices to students from families who meet the USDA household size and income eligibility criteria.

How to Participate

Parents/guardians should fill out the program application distributed at registration and return it to one of the following:

A.  The student' s school

B.  DDESS Child Nutrition Services Department - located in building #19 at Fort Buchanan

C.  mail to:
DDESS Child Nutrition Services, Building #19
Fort Buchanan , PR 00934.

An application form must be completed each year to continue participation in the program.

Additional application materials are available in the principal's office of each school. The information provided on the application will be used solely for the purpose of determining a participant's eligibility and may be verified at any time during the school year by a school or other program official.

The following information must be provided to determine the student's eligibility: 

  • names of all household members
  • social security number(s) of the primary wage earner and/or the adult signing the application
  • total household income
  • signature of an adult household member certifying that the information provided is correct
  • Date signed.
  • most recent leave and earnings statement(s) for all wage earners listed on the form

If it has been determined by a doctor that a child has a special medical condition that prevents him or her from eating the regular school meal, the school will make the accommodations prescribed by the doctor.

In the operation of school food services, no child will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age, or disabilities. If you believe you have been discriminated against, please immediately contact the DDESS Director of Child Nutrition Services at (787) 792-7690.
