School Curriculum and Instruction

Advance Placement Courses

Advanced Placement is a program of college-level courses and exams that give high school students the opportunity to receive advanced placement and/or credit in college. Students must meet set criteria to enroll in each Advanced Placement course.  See the Advanced Placement information on the College Board website.

Enrollment

In order to enroll in an Advanced Placement class, a contract is signed by the student, the student's sponsor, the counselor, the Advanced Placement teacher for the class enrolled, and the Principal or Assistant Principal.

Advanced Placement Exams

All students enrolled in an Advanced Placement course will be required to take the Advanced Placement exam. The examination is scheduled three years in advance; therefore time and date cannot be changed. This exam is given in May. DoDEA pays for AP Exams. Students who do not take the exam and stay for the entire course will not receive a weighted grade.

Weighted Grades

The following point system, weighing grades for Advanced Placement (AP), will be used for the purpose of establishing a student’s grade point average (GPA)

Weighted Grades for AP Courses
  Regular Class AP Class
A 4 points 5 points
B 3 points 4 points
C 2 points 3 points
D 1 points 2 points
F 0 points 0 points
