School Improvement

Continuous School Improvement is an ongoing process that helps schools focus their efforts in support of their mission and goals. Student performance and school/community data is analyzed and used to develop plans to ensure all students are learning and progressing toward achievement of academic standards.

AMS School Improvement Plan School Years 2007 - 2012

Goal 1: All students will improve problem-solving skills across the curriculum.

Essence:  All students will use inductive/deductive reasoning to solve problems by means of analysis, inference and synthesis.

Rational:  After careful analysis of the results from the Math subtests of the 2007 TerraNova, 2nd Edition Test and the AMS Internal Problem solving Assessment, we realized that problem solving in Math continues to be an area in need of improvement.

Goal 2: All students will improve literacy across the curriculum.

Essence:  All students will write effectively and improve reading comprehension through vocabulary building.

Rationale: After careful analysis of the results of the 2007 TerraNova (TNT) 2nd edition Reading/ Language Arts subtests, Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) and the AMS Internal Writing Assessment, AMS has identified editing, writing, basic understanding, and reading strategies as areas of significant need.

Goal 1 of DoDEA's 2007-2012 CSP mandates that all students will show academic growth (beginning to end of school year) in student achievement through a curriculum that challenges each student to excel. The external assessment used at AMS is the TerraNova 3rd Edition.
