Counseling Information

Loyd Elementary School

Our Counseling Department offers many services to students, teachers, and parents.  I offer counseling services on an individual or group environment on a one-time or long-term basis.  Examples of services offered are academic, support services, self esteem, friendships, transitions, bullying, drug awareness, conflict resolution, separation or divorce, sexual and child abuse, sexual harassment, and grief counseling.  I also incorporate the Army Values for whole-class guidance during the year.  They are the following: loyalty, duty/responsibility, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and courage.

When something significant happens in a family, the whole family is affected.  Problems are not only for grown-ups, because the effect on children is profound.  Many children find it difficult to verbalize their feelings.  I am available to assist those students.

The Counseling Department offers an on-going group for students who have a family member away for an extended military tour.  The group meets for thirty minutes, bi-weekly, and is for students in all grades.  Currently we have seven groups (two Pre-K’s and one group for 1st through 5th grade).  Please notify your child’s teacher or me if the service member in your family is ever away for an extended period of time.  We help students understand that they are not the only ones who have a parent away—they are not alone.  I offer coping skills to deal with the absence.

There is counseling available for children going through painful transitions from separation, divorce or loss due to death.  If you have a child who is experiencing difficulties with their feelings due to such circumstances, please contact me to ensure that your child is placed in counseling where each session is fifteen to thirty minutes.

If you have something going on in your family that you feel I should know about, and you think I can help, please let the teacher or me know so that we can assist your child.Loyd Elementary School
