Language Arts –DODEA standards for sixth grade language arts consist of four strands:

Reading Reading is a process which includes demonstrating comprehension and
showing evidence of a warranted and responsible interpretation of the
text.
Speaking, Speaking, listening, and viewing are fundamental processes which people use to
Listening,
Conventions, Having control of the conventions and grammar of the English language
Literature Literature consists of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and essays as distinguished from
instructional, expository, or journalistic writing.

Weekly homework contracts are assigned the first day of each school week. These contracts correlate with the vocabulary in the novel or genre, language and or writing skills we are exploring at the time.
Each child is expected to read a minimum of four books per quarter. These should reflect grade-level-appropriate levels.

Social Studies – Investigating the development of ancient cultures

Homework is given as needed; study notes for tests.
Tests are given on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
