Gym Rules:
  1. Come in orderly and sit in squads unless told to go to personal space.
  2. When the teacher or other adult is talking listen.
  3. Do your personal best when participating in physical education.
  4. Be a good sport at all times. How to be a good sport include, always treat your teammates and opponents the way you would like to be treated, play by the rules, give everyone a turn, wait your turn, cheer on your teammates, always try to do your best, congratulate the other team if you lose, say “thanks” or “good game” to the other team if you win, never put down or make fun of others, respect the decisions of the officials, coaches, and teachers.
  5. Always warm-up before participating in strenuous activity. An example would be, easy jog, jogging in place, jump rope and jumping jacks. A warm-up should increase your heart rate to get the blood flowing through the heart and body.
  6. Always cool-down after strenuous activity. An example would be to walk slowly to decrease your heart rate, stretching the muscles used, and yoga.
  7. One person at a time in the bathroom. Do not go to the bathroom when the teacher is talking or giving directions. Keep the bathroom area clean. No playing or hanging out in the bathroom. During a game you are allowed to go to the bathroom without asking the teacher permission. Walk around the game or drills to prevent from bumping in to others that are playing.
  8. One person at a time when getting water. During the game you are allowed to go to the water fountain without asking the teacher permission.
  9. Gum, candy and food are not allowed in the gym. These items are a choking hazard.
  10. After you have cooled down and the teacher is finished instructing, line up orderly with the teacher taking you back to class.
  11. Wear comfortable clothes and wear proper shoes for physical education class. Shoes should have a rubber sole and must cover the back of the heel. Flip flops, sandals and high heel shoes will not be allowed.

Grading procedure:

Students in physical education are graded on the standards that are posted on the wall in the gym. The areas include Personal and Social Development, Motor Skills and Movement Patterns, and Physical Activity and Fitness. For more information on the standard go to: http://www.dodea.edu/curriculum/physicalEd.cfm?cId=stn&stndId=pe
The physical education Rubric for grading include: Exceed the Standard: meets all expectations, goes above and beyond in helping classmates and the teacher, Does extra assignments-researching games and creating games and shares information with the class, and is never in timeout or sits out during class. Meets Expectations: follows the rules and plays to the best of his/her ability, cooperates with the group and shows good sportsmanship, never sits out and displays and awesome attitude, and completes all journal assignments. Steady Progress: Needs extra help during games and assignments, sometimes cooperates with the group, is put in timeout on occasions, and sometimes completes journal assignments. Limited Progress: Always needs extra help from the teacher or students, does not get along with others in the class and displays poor sportsmanship, puts forth little effort during assignments and games, and is often in timeout.

Squad leaders will be assigned weekly. A squad leader is responsible for making sure everyone in his or her group participates and stays on task. They will also be responsible for making sure the bathrooms are clean and report to the teacher if there is a problem.  After class they will help the teacher pick up any equipment and rearrange things for the next class.

Journal Assignments will be posted on the white board in the gym each week. Students do not have to purchase a notebook this year. They must write it on one sheet of paper and have their name, grade and classroom teacher’s name on it before turning it in. All journal assignments must be hand written using proper grammar and sentence structure.

Consequences- If any of the gym rules are broken the first time a warning is given and the student will write their name on the board. The second time a rule is broken their name is placed in the time out section of the board and sits in the time out area. While in time out the student will write the rule they broke and then will explain in writing how they can improve their behavior. The third time the student will stay in time out and the grade is dropped to limited progress for that day. If a student stays in time out 3 times during the nine weeks a letter will be sent home informing the parents that their child is not meeting the standards in physical education class and showing limited progress.
