Pick-up/Drop-off Procedure    route

CAR RIDERS:

Both the front and back loops are designated AM drop off areas for students brought to school by car. For PM dismissal purposes, the driveway on the side of the school at the back loop will be designated as the pick-up area for grades 2 - 5 ONLY. During PM dismissal, the loop in front of the building is the pick-up point for car riders in Pre-K through 1st grade, their siblings in upper grades, and/or other students who may carpool with these younger students. The side parking lot is designated as the drop-off/pick-up point for BUSES ONLY! Drivers must not at any time park or exit the vehicle while in either of the loops during drop-off or pick-up procedures – we must keep traffic moving. For safety reasons related to moving vehicle traffic, all traffic in areas closest to the school should form one lane. The formation of two lanes of traffic near the drop-off/pick-up areas will not be tolerated. When dropping off students in the morning, students should exit the vehicle on the side of the curb for safety reasons. There is a 5-MPH speed limit in all school zones and parking areas. For those parents that choose to park and walk with their children into the building, the upper parking lot must be utilized. Only officially recognized disabled persons may utilize handicapped parking spaces. It is very important that visitors and parents park in an approved parking place. The few parking spaces on the front loop are for short-term parking only (30 minutes maximum). The small parking lot on the side of the school is off limits to anyone who does not have a handicap tag or placard. This parking lot is for faculty/staff, buses and handicap parking only.

Note: Parents, we also ask that you NOT form pick-up lines for PM dismissal prior to 2:45 PM Mon., Wed., Thurs. & Fri. and 1:30 PM on Tuesdays. Dismissal can be accomplished in 15 minutes if everyone follows the procedures above.

When entering Stowers Drive for afternoon pick-up, please note the following lane designations:

Far Right Lane = Back Loop Pick-up and Parking
Center Lane = Front Loop Pick-up (No Parking)
Left Lane = Outgoing Traffic Only (Exit)

WALKERS:

All parents choosing to meet their walking children will do so ONLY at the front or back bike racks (these students will be escorted to these designated areas by faculty/staff members). Parents should not stand or wait at either the front or side walkways during dismissal. To make sure this rule is adhered to, we will have MPs posted at these locations to assure that pedestrian traffic is kept to a minimum. We strongly encourage you to follow these procedures so that we can maintain a safe and orderly environment for our children.

• Please instruct your children to be very careful at all times when around traffic.

Family pets must remain off campus at all times.

• Crossing guards from the Military Police provide protection to students who cross the street to the main entrance to Stowers Drive only.

Arrangements for child care before and/or after school must be arranged by parents/legal guardians. Students must be picked up on time (3:15 on Mon., Wed., Thurs., & Fri.; 2:00 on Tuesday). In some instances, children left at school after regular dismissal time may be transported to the Military Police station when there is no emergency contact provided.

BIKE RIDERS

Students are permitted to ride bicycles to school; however, bicycles MUST be secured with a lock and parked in the designated bicycle racks. The school will not be responsible for lost or damaged bicycles. For safety reasons, children should not ride their bicycles down the hills or on the sidewalks when encountering others who are walking.

Students riding bikes to school MUST wear a helmet.

Scooters, skateboards, skates, skate shoes or roller blades are not allowed at school.

Parents should instruct students where to go after school and should refrain from calling the school to make or change these arrangements unless it is an emergency. The parent or guardian must inform the school by note or by coming to the school when there is a change in the routine dismissal plan.

School Age Services, Day Care, or other child care providers should be notified by parents of any change in routine procedures.

On rainy days, school offices are overwhelmed with children requesting permission to call home to make arrangements for transportation. We will not be able to give children permission to use the telephone. We can allow children to make phone calls of an emergency nature only. We encourage you to make prior arrangements with your child about rainy day transportation. Students will not be allowed to walk home if the weather is bad (heavy rain and/or lightening and thunder). When your child comes to school and it begins to rain, he/she should know who will be picking him/her up when school is dismissed. In the event inclement weather (snow, tornado, hurricane, sleet, etc.) warrants the closing or early dismissal of school, an announcement will be made via the news media (radio, television, etc.) concerning the Fort Benning Schools. Other school district notices do not apply to the Fort Benning Schools. Please tune into local radio or television stations for current school closing information. Please do not tie up phone lines by calling the school
