Language Arts watermelon

We read lots of stories and worked hard on retelling them and identifying the setting, main characters, main idea, and details.  We learned how to identify pronouns, plural nouns, and irregular verbs, too. Also, we have been reading a lot of  books and we have been continuing to use our strategies to figure out words we don’t know. We also have been taking lots of Reading Counts tests!  We love going to the store to redeem our points! I am so proud!  Keep up the good work!

Keep reading every night!   Please read with your child every night and ask your child to retell the story afterwards!

beachMath

In math we have been studying measurement. We learned about inches, centimeters, cups, pints, quarts, liters, pounds, and kilograms. We also learned how some items are longer, shorter, lighter or heavier than other items.  We know that measurement is important because we will use it all the time when we grow up.  We will need to know how to measure things, especially when we cook and  when we fix things around the house.  We have also learned about geometry.  We know that a vertex is a corner and some figures are 2-demensional and 3-demensional.  Some figures have faces and some do not.  Some have curves and some don’t.  And some have sides and some do not.  Ask your child all about it! :)

Science/Social Studies

In science we are continuing  to water and care for our plants here in the classroom.  They are growing so tall!  We will continue learning about animals, plants and their habitats.  We know that each habitat in which they live has everything the animals need for them to survive.  We are also learning about classifying animals.  This week we will be studying about mammals, fish, reptiles, birds, and amphibians.  Ask your child to tell you what they’ve learned.

Social Studies

In social studies we talked about Earth Day. We read about ways to protect and keep our Earth clean. We read a story about pollution and learned how we can recycle at home to reduce waste in our landfills.

Reminders

We have three more Fridays before the end of school.  So we still need more Friday Fun Club treats.  Please send in some as soon as possible.  Thank you to those parents who have been sending them in all  year.  We GREATLY appreciate it!

Volunteers for Field Day!!!

Volunteers are need to help out with field day.  If you would like to help, please send in a note.  We would love to have you join us for this exciting day!!
Thank you in advance!  :)

  • Come and join the “220 Club!”

  • The 220 Club in full swing and we are so proud of the students who have met the goal and have joined!  Ask your child about going to the “treasure box”!  Every time they meet another goal (get to another level) they get to go pick a prize from the “treasure box.”  With so many kids meeting goals, our treasure box is becoming empty fast!  If you would like to donate some items (no food please) just send them into our room with your child.  We all would greatly appreciate anything you send.  We know learning is not all about “treats” and “rewards” because the REAL reward is KNOWLEDGE!!!  BUT a little prize now and then never hurt anyone!  :)  Thank you for your help!

Sight Words

  • Na., An., Si., and Ja. are our official members of the “220 Club”!  To be in the “club” a student must be able to read all of the 220 sight words within 3 seconds!  YOU can become a member today!!  Practice your sight words at home so you will be able to read them and join the club!  There is also a “40 Club,” a “92 Club,” a “133 Club,” and a “179 Club” for the students who can read the other lists, but don’t quite know all 220.

  • Reading Counts in Our Class!

  • Reading Counts I am so proud of ALL of the students
in our class! This has been an amazing year so far for Reading Counts!!! I am thrilled with the enthusiasm that the students have shown and how many books they have read. WOW!!!
