Counselor's Corner
The Counseling Department at Wilson School is multifaceted. One of the traditional goals of the department is to provide large group (Guidance), small group, and individual counseling to students.
Many parents often ask what counselors do, and my response is tha a counselor's main role is to help students succeed. Counselors take a vital role in each and every child's education by providing the child with the necessary tools to succeed and cope in an ever-changing and sometimes violent world. Collaboration between the counselor and teacher is commonplace and ensures that children's needs are identified and a plan of action takes place.
Some of the topics covered in the course of a year include:
- Conflict Resolution
- Anger Management
- Drug Awareness
- Good Touch Bad Touch
- Cultural Awareness and Tolerance
- Careers
- Violence Prevention
- Self Awareness.
The counseling department also coordinates activities such as:
- Student Council
- Kids CAre Club (instilling a spirit of compassion and volunteerism),
- "Caught in the Act" Program (promoting random acts of kindness.)
