I believe an effective classroom teaches each child personal responsibility. Our class rules focus on the positive side of discipline by providing lots of praise, encouragement, positive reinforcement, and rewards while incorporating natural and logical consequences.

Respect yourself and others. Students are expected to do their best and be kind to and patient with others in our room and school. Negative remarks, name calling, hurtful gestures or behavior, or the destruction of an individual's or school property will not be tolerated.

Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat.

Be a good listener. A good listener pays close attention to the speaker, whether it's a teacher, guest speaker, or another student.

Work quietly. Please do not disturb others who are working whether in our classroom or in the hall. There are times when we will work in groups or with partners and there are independent work times.
 
 

Learning does not stop when the school bell rings. Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. This is an opportunity for students to reinforce the skills we are working on in class. Homework is collected every morning at the beginning of class.

Any class work not finished during the school day will be finished at home, but full credit will not be given. It should be completed (in addition to any assigned homework) and returned to school the next day.
 
 

• Check the purple sheet daily Monday through Thursday for homework assignments.  Look for information on incomplete/missing work, behavior, or other comments. Praise you child for positive comments and talk to your child about any problem areas. Don't forget to sign your name nightly.
• Reading at home nightly is very important. Students are to read at least 4 times a week for at least 20 minutes. Please, mark the 20 day monthly reading tracking sheet for turn in at the end of each month.
• On Mondays and Wednesdays---PE days remember to wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes.
• Students may bring a snack from home. No candy, gum or soft drinks.
• Return all library books on or before Tuesday---Media day each week so new books can be checked out.
• If you have questions call me at 910-907-0207 after school.
• School supplies: Check this weekly.  Pencils and erasers do not last long.  Each child will need to provide their own school supplies.  A complete supply list can be found on the web site for McNair School.
