Announcements

Hello Swan Family,

Have fun exploring our webpage as I hope you’re able to find helpful information and links to increase your students’ success in first grade. Feel free to e-mail me with your topics, interest, and ideas to make our page not only enjoyable but relevant.

Don’t forget to purchase your school shirts! Fridays are McNair Wear days! Please submit your order forms and payments via your students HW folder. You may also see PTO personnel or the side hall display for further purchasing information.

Show & Tell Has Arrived! Each Friday a table will be allowed to bring in an item to present to the class. Our class is divided into 4 tables: Pink, Green, Grey, and Purple. Keep a close eye on the Swan Newsletter to see which Friday is your student’s table day.

This Month:

McNair School's
Calendar of Events
October 2009

Look at what we will learn:

This month we will begin our new theme in Reading/Language Arts titled Problem Patrol. In this theme we will explore the many kinds of problems and create appropriate solutions. Reading comprehension strategies during this theme consist of: main idea/details, problem/solution, predictions, plot, compare/contrast, and sequence.

In attempts to assist your students in retaining comprehension skills read daily for at least 20 minutes and follow each story with responding questions such as:

Who are the characters?

Where did the story take place?

What was the problem?

How was it solved?

What happened in the story, start from the beginning? What happened inn the middle? How did the story end?

How are the characters alike/different?

What do you think will happen if…?

Also introduce you students to reading different forms of media with the incorporation of newspapers, magazines, and the internet.

Happy Reading!
