Message from the Principal

We are fast approaching the 2nd full month of school.  As you visit McNair you will see students more actively engaged in learning experiences that meet their individual academic needs.  Staff members are using student work samples and performance data to make instructional decisions and students are benefiting from their learning experiences.

Thank you for making Curriculum Night a huge success!  I hope you walked away with a greater sense of what your child is learning and how learning takes place.  You asked great questions and I hope that we helped to clarify our system of teaching and learning.  There were 2 terms that I discussed in detail on that evening:  Authentic Work and Differentiated Instruction.  Creating authentic work allows students to demonstrate mastery of skills using real-life examples and student created projects (not in worksheet format). Differentiating Instruction is the process of modifying curriculum, instruction and expectations for work to meet the readiness levels of students.  You are welcomed to visit your child’s classroom at anytime to observe these terms in action.  Just sign in at the front office and enjoy your visit.

Attention Kindergarten Parents:  Reading Streets is at McNair!  Reading Streets is the new English/Language Arts series that integrates pre-reading and reading standards into science and social studies.  Kindergarten teachers will fully implement this program in November.  More information will be coming home soon.

Finally, just a reminder that pets are not permitted on school grounds when students are in school.  Thank you for your continuous support of school policies and regulations.  I look forward to seeing you around McNair ES and involved in school activities and events.  Enjoy the beautiful season of Fall, and thank you so much for your continuous support.
