The Visual Arts Education program is an integrated part of the curriculum which helps to advance students through all phases of their learning. Students express ideas, images and feelings and become more aware of their physical environment. Students begin to understand art concepts of line, texture, color, shape and form. Skills taught include visual perception, creative solutions, manual dexterity, recognition of order, concepts of balance, proportion, mood and perspective and communication with others. Drawing, painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics and crafts are part of the variety of art media.
The Visual Arts address problem solving using nonverbal communication skills, thus enhancing the creative process through skill development and creative thinking. The development of higher level thinking skills is an integral part of the art curriculum. Activities incorporating art concepts and use of materials stimulate learning, invite curiosity, build confidence, encourage divergent thinking, demand analysis, and foster innate creative ability.
