Preschool Program Philosophy

The Fort Bragg Schools Preschool Program is a place for both children and parents to experience the joy of learning. It's goal is to instill a love of learning and to build a positive self-image in young children. The program will foster independence, social acceptance and responsibility in a developmentally appropriate environment. The classroom will be child centered and reflect the varied interests, needs, and abilities of all students. The environment will enable all children to feel secure and experience success. This program will incorporate a wide variety of activities to enhance the development of the whole child.

DAILY SCHEDULE

1.

Arrival:

*Morning Session: 8:25 a.m. *Afternoon Session: 12:00 p.m.

2.

Meal Time:

Family style dining is an integral part of the preschool day. Family style meals promote language development, allow sharing, teach manners, provide concrete experiences, and promote pre-mathematical skills for children.

3.

Circle Time:

Circle time, a large group activity, allows the children and teacher to interact in a variety of ways. Circle time varies according to the designated classroom theme. Teachers select songs, finger plays, sharing, puppetry, language experiences, group puzzles, etc. to compliment their instructional plan.

4.

Outdoor Playtime:

Outdoor experiences improve gross motor development and social skills in a variety of ways (i.e., sand toys, bikes, games, and parachute play).

5.

Center Time:

Research and theory about how young children learn shows us that play significantly contributes to a child's development. Without the opportunity for play and the environment that supports it, a child's learning is limited. Some of the centers include Blocks, Dramatic Play, Sand, Art, Easel, Computers, Reading, Listening, Manipulatives, Writing, Puppets, Water, etc.

6.

Departure:

*Morning Session: 11:00 a.m. *Afternoon Session: 2:25 p.m.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

The Fort Bragg Schools' Preschool Program is a place for both children and parents to experience the joy of learning. Parents are their child's primary advocates and first teachers. Parents are required to participate in the home school partnership of the Preschool Program a minimum of 4 hours per month. Throughout the year there are various ways to participate in the child's program. Some examples of the ways to participate include:

Volunteer in the Classroom
...Read a story
...Chaperone on a field trip
...Be a safety watcher during outdoor playtime
...Assist students on computers
...Assist with Family Style Dining
...Assist students during center time
...Provide cooking lessons

Activities Outside Classroom
...Preparation of teacher made materials
...Collecting teaching resources
...Preparation and/or participation in Family Resource

Days/Nights
...Family trip to area points of interest
...Cooking Activity

Parents receive a parent participation log each month or two. Logs are used to keep track of all the time parent(s) have participated at home and at school in their child's program. Parent Participation Logs are periodically collected from parents and the parent participation time is recorded. Research is clear on the importance of parental involvement in their student's education and its powerful influence upon the child's school achievement.
