PARENT – TEACHER CONFERENCES for 2009 - 2010

Parent – Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Friday, November 13.

A Parent – Teacher Conference gives you a chance to:

·         Get to know your child’s teachers

·         Learn about the school and curriculum

·         Discuss your child’s strengths and weaknesses in various areas

·         Ask questions

·         Give teachers information that will help them understand your child’s needs

·         Work with us in planning your child’s school year.

We will learn things from you that will help us improve your child’s educational program.

HELPFUL HINTS:

It is especially helpful if both parents can attend the conference.

Be on time – try to follow the schedule that has been set up.

If your schedule is difficult, check with the school about arranging a special time for your conference.

In some schools, the child attends the conference; your school will let you know about this.

                YOU CAN HELP!!

Here’s what you can do to get ready for the conference:

Make a list of things that will help the teacher understand your child better. For example:

·         Any special health needs or problems

·         Outside hobbies and interests

·         Feelings about school

·         Relationships with brothers and sisters.

Make a list of things you want to find out from the teachers. For example you may wish to know about:

·         Services and programs the school offers

·         Discipline policies

·         Grading policy

·         Homework policy

Talk about the conference with your child beforehand to get ideas about what should be covered, and to help relieve anxiety about the conference.

WHEN THE CONFERENCE IS OVER:

You will have a better understanding of all aspects of your child’s school experience.

You will know more about his/her strengths and weaknesses, special abilities, and current performance.

You should have a plan to help your child do his/her best from now on.

You should tell your child what was discussed and be sure to talk about any changes or new plans. Try to be positive! The better your child feels about him/herself, the better he/she will do in school.

If your child attended the conference, it is still important to discuss it with him/her to make sure everyone understands what was said!
