Reading Clubs

Four Reading Clubs are offered.

The Read to Me Club 2 is for second graders and an accompanying parent. This club will begin in September and meet the first Wednesday of each month. The goals of this club are to expand upon those of the first grade Read To Me Club above to include:

  • Have each adult read books of different kinds of genre
  • Have each adult read similar books by different authors
  • Have each adult read different books by the same authors

Each meeting will have guest readers, and will feature an author feature and a genre feature book. While this club targets second graders, older or younger brothers and sisters may come if childcare is not available.

 

The Read To Me Club is for first graders and an accompanying parent. This club will begin in August and will meet after school for one hour on the last Wednesday of every month. The goals of this club are:

  • To build a love of books and reading
  • To encourage adults and children to enjoy picture books together
  • To introduce parents and children to a wide selection of books
  • To provide read aloud books to club members
  • To have each adult read 5 books by some of the featured authors to their children

Each meeting will have guest readers, book shows, book talks and much more. While this club targets first graders, older or younger brothers and sisters may come if childcare is not available.

Two Intermediate Reading Clubs for 3rd and 4th graders will be offered during the school year. One club will be first semester and the second club will meet second semester. Each club will have 9 meetings and meet every other week after school for one hour. The clubs are designed to support the DoDEA Standards below.
3rd grade standards:
Read 30 chapter books independently
Read and hear text read aloud from a variety of genres
Recognize genre features
Read multiple books by the same author
4th grade standards:
Read at least 25 books on the lexile level 600L-900L
Read a variety of genre
Read multiple books by the same author
Participates in formal and informal book talks
