| Devers Elementary
opened on 19 August 1996 and was dedicated on 10 September 1996. Located
in the Ardennes Housing Area, Devers serves approximately 600 students prekindergarten
through fourth grade. Devers has a strong base of community support
from the attendance communities, housing area mayors, PTA, Boy Scouts, and
military partner unit. As a community school, Devers opens its doors
for Cub Scout Summer Day Camp, YMCA Operation Hero, and a
variety of Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities. An action-oriented
PTO promotes involvement in the school through a variety of events to include
Book Fairs, and Reading is Fundamental (RIF),. Soldiers and parents
support all areas of the curriculum through classroom volunteer hours, School
Improvement
Team membership, and work on special
projects such as the Presidential Physical Fitness
Challenge and Earth Day.
Teachers, committed to
integrated instruction, inclusion, and the utilization of technology, are
recruited
to join the Devers Staff. Instruction is provided in heterogeneous
classrooms that utilize thematic, integrated instruction to address Department
of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Curriculum
Standards. Grade levels utilize team planning.
The DoDEA Community Strategic
Plan (CSP) provides direction for Devers’ school improvement
efforts. Under the guidance of the School Improvement Team, Devers’ staff
and community stakeholders developed a School Improvement Plan that addresses
student achievement through a school-wide academic focus on Literacy. School
committees, chaired by School Improvement Team members, organize school improvement
efforts and facilitate School Improvement Plan strategies.
