School Improvement and Accreditation are two of the primary vehicles by which Fort Bragg Schools as part of The Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) operated by the DoD Education Activity works to meet the goals of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Community Strategic Plan (CSP). All Fort Bragg schools are fully accredited by The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI).

Following DoDEA and NCA guidelines, we are beginning the first year of a five year school improvement  plan developed by the School Improvement Team and the faculty and staff of Devers Elementary. Our goals are:

Goal # 1: All students will increase word knowledge

Essence of the Goal: Word knowledge is a student’s ability to apply visual and auditory recognition, phonemic awareness and word meaning.

Intervention; All students will be involved in systematic word study instruction.

Teachers will: teach and model auditory and visual recognition of words.

Students will: learn, practice and apply word recognition.

Teachers will teach and model phonetic awareness in classroom instruction.

Students will: learn and practice phonemic awareness strategies.

Teachers will: teach and model word meaning.

Students will: learn, practice and apply word meaning.


Goal # 2 Goal: All students will improve problem solving skills.

Essence of the Goal: Students will gather, organize, analyze, evaluate and reflect upon information to solve problems in math.

Intervention: Students will apply a process that monitors and guides strategies for solving problems.

Teachers will: model and teach daily problem solving using the Read-It, Draw-It, Solve-It process to represent numbers and develop number sense (K-2)

Students will: practice and apply daily problem solving strategies and monitor and reflect on their own processes (metacognition) (K-2)

Teachers will: model and teach daily problem solving using the U.P.S.L process (Understand, Plan, Solve and Look Back) (3rd-4th)

Students will: practice and apply daily problem solving strategies and monitor and reflect on their own processes (metacognition)
