School Wide Academic Focus: Literacy Skills and Problem Solving Skills
Holbrook's Goals for 2007-2008 :
literacy: Students will use literacy skills to increase their basic understanding of texts whil they learn to extend the text meaning. Students will also identify reading strategies to support comprehension. Holbrook's staff has been trained in Guided Reading strategies, differentiation methods, and assessment procedures. A Guided Reading Book Room has been established to provide teachers with reading material on different reading levels.
Problem Solving: Students will use problem solving strategies to identify a problem, then select and apply strategies, and evaluate the results. Problem solving is a critical life skill. Students will apply the UPSL model as an approach to solving any problem. UPSL stands for: Understand, Plan, Solve and Look Back.
