Welcome McNair School's
 Fourth Grade Eagles Classroom

MISSION STATEMENT:

McNair's staff, family, and community mission is to prepare students for a

Changing global society by

Nurturing all students and providing an

Academically challenging

Interdisciplinary curriculum that will enable students to be

Responsible citizens and life-long learners

We are well into our first quarter of work. Please be sure to check the homework folder daily for all information from our classroom. With your help and guidance, your child will have an exciting and rewarding academic year.

We believe that all children can learn within a positive environment that is conducive to learning. We will be using cooperative learning; integration of all subject areas, enrichment activities, hands-on activities, and projects, to enhance your child's learning experience. Classroom activities include safety patrol, Type-To-Learn lessons, UPSL (Understand, Plan, Solve, Lookback), finding Main Ideas and Details, small and large groups activities, and in-house tutoring times.

HOMEWORK

Homework is an outgrowth of class instruction. It is important for your child to follow through with homework activities. Homework will be given to your child Monday through Thursday, maximum of one hour (unless studying for a test or working on a project) on as needed basis. Any work not completed in the classroom will be considered homework. We expect a student to do their best job on the homework. It should be neat, and done to the best of their ability. We expect a student to do the work on their own and ask for help, only after it has been given their best effort. If there is a legitimate reason why a student is not able to finish their homework, the parent should send a signed note to school on the day the homework is due stating a reason why it is not completed. Students will be given a one-day grace period to complete assignment(s). The work will be accepted, but with a loss of points. We believe that positive support, while doing homework, plays an important role in motivating a child. It also helps then to develop good study habits, which will enhance learning. We will give each student praises and other incentives when they do their homework.

GRADING POLICIES

The grading system will be followed as it appears in the McNair School Handbook. The total grade average will be a weighted combination of class work, homework, projects, oral presentations, journal, quizzes, and tests. Daily grades can be viewed once you apply for a Gradespeed account.  A link to apply for an account for your fourth grader is available on the main page of our school's website.

Your child has the right to the best education.  These guidelines are setup to give your child the best opportunity to learn and to keep our learning environment safe.

QUESTIONS?

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call us at school. We will be happy to talk with you. Also, parents, if you or your spouse is deploying, please let us know. Sometimes behaviors change and a little understanding is all that is needed. Without that prior information it is often difficult!

Thank you for all that you do.
