Murray Elementary School's Competency-Based Counseling Program (CBCP) is part of the total school program.  CBCP promotes learning by assisting students in mastering skills and developing the attitudes necessary to be successful students. 

Our school counseling program will demonstrate Murray PRIDE by:

   Providing a positive and safe environment for all students to solve problems.
    Respecting the diversity of all students when planning and implementing the school counseling program.
    Integrating the school counseling standards with the school improvement plan.

    Developing a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor  Association (ASCA) national standards in the areas of academic, personal/social,  and career development.  

    Empowering all students to reach their highest potential to become  life-long learners.         

          Our counseling program includes the following:

• Classroom Guidance Curriculum: This is a structured developmental experience presented by the school counselor as part of the curriculum.

• Individual Student Planning: This includes counseling activities to assist all students to plan, monitor, and manage their own learning as well as their personal and career development.

• Response Services: This consists of activities to meet the immediate needs and concerns that require counseling, consultation, referral, or information.  Small group counseling is included in this component.

• System Support: This includes management activities that establish, maintain, and enhance the total guidance program.
