Positive Parent/Child Communication Tips
Make time each day to have a conversation with your child about anything you both want to discuss.
Be direct, honest and open
Use good timing: sometimes a child can be too upset or too tired to discuss anything reasonably.
Learn to listen: let your child feel that you have a genuine interest in what he or she has to say.
Ask questions without threats, accusations, sarcasm or demands.
Maintain eye contact.
Don’t jump to conclusions: if you don’t understand something, ask for more explanation.
Be affectionate: a smile, hug, kiss, pat on the back says a lot to a child.
Praise your child for a job well done.
