Overview of School Improvement Plan
2009-2010 School Year
GGoal 1: All students will improve reading comprehension skills in all curricular areas.
Essence of the Goal: Students, PK- 4, will use literacy skills as appropriate to improve basic reading and comprehension skills by analyzing text and evaluating and extending the text meaning.
IIntervention Strategy: Students will improve literacy skills through daily Guided Reading instructional activities.
Teachers will model and teach literacy skills through a guided reading instructional program.
Students will learn and apply literacy skills in their daily reading activities.
Teachers will determine the instructional level for all students and provide direct instruction through flexible guided reading groups and instructional best practices.
Students will participate daily in teacher directed flexible guided reading groups.
Teachers will utilize book sets from the Guided Reading Book section of the library for Guided Reading instruction.
Students will read books on their instructional level and complete related literacy activities.
Goal 2: All students will improve problem solving skills in mathematics.
Essence of the Goal: Students will use problem solving strategies to identify a problem, then select/apply strategies, and evaluate the results.
Intervention: All students will learn and apply the Big 6 or Super 3 model to solve problems.
Train and/or review the use of Bloom’s taxonomy in reference to questioning techniques that go beyond the evaluation of knowledge. (i.e. application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation)
2. Train and/or review the implementation of Super 3 and Big 6 problem solving strategies.
3. Teachers will demonstrate and teach the Super 3 and Big 6 model of problem solving.
4. Students will participate in daily problem solving activities using the Super 3 or Big 6 problem solving method.
