You need a 3 - ring binder, a pencil and headphones every day.

COMPUTER MUSIC

FINAL – 2008

Everything will be done on the computer using SIBELIUS.

Things you will need to know, create or be able to do:

• save to the correct folder
• create a new score
• add instruments (layout)
• add measures
• create key signatures
• create time signatures
• create title & subtitle
• create composer
• create repeat signs
• create change Key Signatures
• Create WHOLE NOTE CHORDS and label them (ex:  C, Dm7, G7, etc.)
• create double bar lines
• create tempo markings
• create style markings
•  create rit. marking
• create dynamic markings
• create crescendo and decrescendo markings
• create  a fermata
• create a melody using sixteenth, eighth, quarter and half notes in the treble clef based on whole note chords
• create a string quartet:  violin 1, violin 2, violincello, double bass
• Separate the staffs so you can see the things you will be putting in the score.
• Transfer a melody from the piano score into the violin 1 part
• Filter notes from chords, copy and paste
• Use eighth, quarter and half notes to make the violin 2, violincello and double bass parts more interesting - making sure the harmony works vertically.

GRADING FOR REMAINDER OF 4TH QUARTER

• You will receive a grade from 0 – 100 based on your work ethic during each class for the remainder of the 4th quarter.  A person with a Positive work ethic:

• 10 points will be automatically deducted for each of the following:
• Chewing Gum
• Not having a pencil
• Not having your headphones
• Not having your computer music notebook
• Being off-task (talking, sleeping, etc.)

How do I earn my participation grade?

  (5 = Always/Almost Always, 4 = Usually/Often, 3 = Sometimes, 2 = Rarely, 1 = Not Evident)

________1. Arrive on time, prepared with your 3 ring binder, paper, textbook,   headphones, and a pencil or pen.

________2. Take proper seat and promptly be ready to begin class.

________3. Show respect for classroom and equipment; no food or drink. 

________4. Speak only at appropriate times. 

________5. Show respect for your classmates and teacher.

________6. Actively contribute to group discussions; volunteer to answer questions. 

________7. Do all assigned work to the best of your ability. 

________8. Practice perceptive listening when hearing music, live or recorded. 

________9. Follow all instructions when they are given.

A participation grade of F is earned for the period during which ANY of the following behaviors occur. Such behaviors may also lead to disciplinary consequences.

________ Talking out of turn while a classmate has the floor.

________ Speaking out of turn while the teacher is speaking.

________ Any behavior that is disruptive, distracting, or detrimental to the work of the class.
