  1. What is the difference between temporary and permanent positions and is there any probationary period= ?

 

Fort Campbell Schools offer both temporary and permanent Federal civilian employ= ment opportunities.  Permanent empl= oyees serve a one-year probationary period after which the employment contract can become continuous and indefinite.  Temporary employees receive some, but not all employment benefits.  Temporary employment may lead to permanent employment, but there is no guarantee.  As a Federal civilian employee, yo= u may have the opportunity to transfer to any of our world-wide Department of Def= ense Education Activity sites with continued service.

 

2. = ;  What is the procedure for applying as a Substitute Teacher? 

 

At various times through the year, there is a position advertised for Training Instructor.  The application p= rocess is the same as for any other position.

 

3.  What Benefits are available with a permanent position at Fort Campbe= ll Schools?

 

MEDICAL INSURANCE:  Federal employees, retirees, and their survivors enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country.  You can choose from among thirteen Fee-For-Service plans, and their Preferred Provider Organizations or Plans offering a Point of Service Product, or seven Health Maintenance Organizations.  You also have a choice of coverage: self only, or self and family coverage.  The Government contributes toward = the total cost of your premium - employer contributions vary depending upon the plan you select.  Each year, y= ou have the opportunity to enroll or change plans.

 

LIFE INSURANCE:  <= span style=3D'font-family:Arial'>The Federal Employees Group Life insurance Prog= ram (FEGLI) is the largest group life insurance program in the world, covering = over four million Federal employees and retirees.  FEGLI provides group term life ins= urance and consists of Basic life coverage and three options.  The employer pays a third of your = basic insurance if you elect coverage.

 

RETIREMENT:  Federal employees have the opportunity to parti= cipate in the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).  The three-tiered retirement plan includes Social Security Benefits, Basic Benefits, and the Thrift Savings P= lan (TSP).  You can make tax-defer= red contributions to your TSP account (up to 12% of salary) and the Government matches up to an additional 5%.  The TSP account is similar to a 401(k) plan.&n= bsp; In TSP participants are offered up to five investment funds to choose from.  Loans from your TSP acc= ount are available.  Disability, de= ferred and early retirement, and survivor benefits are also available.

 

SICK LEAVE/PERSONAL LEAVE:   <= /span>Employees receive twelve days of sick leave and= three days of personal leave each school year.&n= bsp; Up to twelve work-weeks of unpaid leave per year is available to care for a family member with a serious health problem.  In some cases, paid leave may be approved.  To assist you in me= eting work and family obligations, this leave is also available for both mothers = and fathers for the birth and care of a child.=   We also offer a voluntary Emergency Leave Bank and members may recei= ve donated leave from the bank if the employee experiences a personal or family medical emergency.  With appro= val, leave for education purposes is also available.  

 

  1.  Is there more information avai= lable about salaries?

 

Salary includes eight pay lanes ranging from the Baccalaureate level to the Doctor= al level.  Your pay lane will be increased at any time you achieve the requisite education or degree.  You will receive an automatic step increase annually for 30 years.  Additionally, you will receive a cost of living adjustment each year.  The past several years = have netted a 3% increase each year.   More salary information is available at:  http://www.dode= a.edu/offices/hr/salary/default.htm

 

  1.  What certification is acceptab= le to apply for a position with Fort Campbell Schools?

For hiring purposes, DoDEA and DDESS require a State Certification or License in the area for which you are applying.   Once you are hired you will = be expected to apply for DODEA certification.

 

  1. Will it be possible for me to do= a state internship during my first two years of employment such as the State o= f Kentucky re= quires?

 

No, DoDEA has its own certification process and certification.

 

  1. How do I get a DoDEA Teaching Certificate?

  1. What is an Extra Duty Assignment= ?

 

Coaching, band, academic clubs and other student activity positions are advertised to= all Fort Campbell School employees.  Supplements range = from $750 to $12,000 in accordance with the duties and amount of time needed to devote to the individual programs.  <= /span>Opportunities are usually also available to teach during the summer in the Summer Enrichm= ent Program and the Special Education Extended Year Program. =

 

 

  1. What is the difference between <= span class=3DSpellE>DoDEA, DDESS, Kentucky District, and Fort     Campbell Commu= nity Schools.

 

This is the hierarchy for DoDEA Schools.  DODEA is the Department of Defense Education Activity headquartered in Arlington, Virginia and has the authorization of all Department of Defense Schools, overseas as well as stateside.  DDESS stands for Department of Defense (DoD<= /span>) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools and is the stateside section of DoDEA. DDESS headquarters are in Peachtree City, Geor= gia which is near Atlanta.  The Kentucky District is one of the DDESS stateside school districts and combines Fo= rt Campbell and Fort Knox Schools.  This is why all applications must = be sent to DDESS for evaluation.
