C. Request for DDESS School Board Advisory
Group
This item
was tabled due to the lack of a quorum.
D. Dress Code Exemption for Middle School
Students
At the
April School Board Meeting, members recommended a dress code exemption for high
school students which would allow gray and royal blue as approved colors for
shirts. The Community Superintendent
concurred with the recommendation. After
consultation with the administration at both middle schools, the Community
Superintendent modified the dress code to include gray and royal blue shirts
for middle school students as well.
E. Middle School Students/High School
Athletics
Members
were informed that a preliminary committee has been formed to explore this
issue. One meeting has been held and
another scheduled. The committee has
developed questions and is gathering information. The board will receive the committee’s
recommendation at the August meeting.
F. School Newsletters
Members
were provided with copies of the latest school newsletters that have been
published.

IV. New Business
A. Cafeteria Monthly Report
A copy of
the Cafeteria Monthly Report and a briefing of the Summer Meal program were
provided.

Financial Statement
Members
reviewed the financial statement for April 2006.
C. Composition of School Board
Research
has been completed on the number of housing units in each of our seven
districts. A chart was provided that
reflected current housing units and projected units when construction is
complete. A disparity in numbers appears
to exist. It was the consensus of
members to accept the Community Superintendent’s recommendation to continue to
examine the question of redistricting representational areas during the next
school year.
D. School Board Election
The
election process for candidates wishing to participate in our school board
election was reviewed. Interested
candidates may pick up and return a nominating petition at their child’s school
or at the central office. Petitions must
be returned by COB on 30 June. School Board
Elections will be held this fall during each school’s open house.
