Introduction
Students are expected to dress in a manner that neither distracts from the learning atmosphere of our school nor interferes with the instructional process. Careful grooming and appropriate dress are important factors
in the student’s development of a wholesome personality, positive self-concept, and acceptance by others. In addition, attire and grooming influence the behavior of students. Students are encouraged to treat school as a place of business and to dress accordingly while in the building and/or on the campus.
The dress code is designed to ensure the health and safety of students, and to avoid distractions to the educational process. Students are required to wear school-approved uniforms. These uniforms may be purchased in the approved colors at the PX or other stores. Parents or sponsors desiring to make purchases elsewhere may do so provided the color and the style replicate the standardized dress. Clothing must be neither too large nor too small. Oversize clothing is not to be worn. Students must be in dress code when they enter the building and remain in dress code until they leave the building.

Headwear (including hats, bandanas, dew rags, hair rollers, scarves, picks, etc.) is not to be worn inside the building.
Body piercings are limited to earrings in ears.
Students are not to wear or carry chains or other apparel that could conceivably be viewed as dangerous. Jewelry with spikes, pins, and/or needles is not to be worn.
e) Regular shoes must be worn. Shower shoes and house slippers are not permitted.
f) No sweatbands (head or wrist) may be worn except in physical education classes.
g) Tattoos must be covered.
The following are not acceptable: Cargo (pants with leg pockets) or five pocket pants, overalls, painter
pants, denim jeans or jean style pants in any color, spandex pants, pants with draw strings or excessive flair bottoms, sagging pants, or any clothing that is excessively tight, baggy, or revealing.
Accessories must not detract from the intent of the dress code. Students should avoid any extremes in appearance that draw attention to oneself or distract from the learning of others, such as exaggerated grooming, extremes in hair color, and body art.
The administration reserves the right to prohibit a particular item of clothing if it is not specifically covered by this policy, but is deemed to cause sufficient concerns regarding the appropriateness or the security of our school. Because the teenage years are a time of rapid physical change, clothing items purchased for school at the beginning of the year may not remain appropriate due to growth. If there is some question as to the appropriateness of certain apparel, the student should wear something else. Students are encouraged to ask before wearing a garment that might be determined as inappropriate.
Students, who come to class in inappropriate dress, as determined by any faculty member, will be detained in ISS until they have changed into proper clothing. If immediate correction cannot be made, the ISS supervisor will assist in obtaining the student(s)’ assignments so the time spent in ISS can be productive in nature.
