Elementary Attendance Procedures

Absences Per Semester
Procedure
Each Absence

Parents are asked to call the school to report their child’s absence.  When the child returns to school she/he must present a written note/doctor’s excuse stating the cause and specific dates involved.  If the school has not been contacted, the school will attempt to notify the parent of the absence.

5 Absences

A letter will be sent to the parents from the principal.  (except for approved pre-planned absences)

7 Absences

A telephone conference will be conducted with parents, by a counselor, teacher, nurse, or administrator.

10 Absences

Teachers, administrators, and the student’s parents will review the case to determine if an attendance problem exists and the possibility of failure of the grade.  They will review all documentation of absences which can include grades, make-up work, doctor’s notices, parent notes, court records, school records, etc.  (Non-attendance by the student’s parents will result in a letter to the sponsor’s Commander.)

Excessive Absences
More than 10

Will result in retention consideration and a letter sent to the sponsor’s unit commander and the Ft. Campbell School Superintendent as determined by the Principal.  The School Attendance Committee will review the student’s record.  Ultimately, promotion to the next grade or retention at the current grade will be determined after performance, make-up work, and attendance have been considered.
