Parent Involvement
Many schools across the nation give lip service to involving parents in decision making. At Jackson, it's a reality. This occurs in a variety of ways and at multiple levels.
In the classroom it equates to having parent volunteers supporting the classroom teacher on a daily basis. If a child is struggling or if a teacher is stymied as to how to challenge a given child, most parents are willing participants to serve as consultants and/or enforcers - whatever is needed. After all, who knows better than one who lives with him day in, day out. The prerequisite to receiving whole-hearted support is achieving trust: Trust that the teacher has only the child's well being at heart and is willing to modify his/her program to whatever is needed to enable the child to be successful. As strategies are implemented, rejected or maintained depending on the level of their success, it is imperative that communication remain free-flowing, positive and two-sided.
At the school level, parents coordinate activities, serve as fully functioning members of standing commitees and most critically, serve as conduits to the rest of the community regarding our integrity, commitment to children and ability to educate. Parents are always listened to and their opinions are respected.
Parent Teacher Organization
The purpose of the PTO is to solicit cooperation among parents, students, teachers, and the administrators of Jackson Elementary School in order to provide the best possible learning environment for students attending the school to support school programs, and to promote progress according to the school goals. All parents are encouraged to join the PTO. Membership is available throughout the year.
