First Grade News!

We Just finished up our second of six units. we're roughly 1/3 of the way through the school year. I have added a couple of new things that will appear on our homework calendar. Comprehension and sentences which will challenge and engage them.The vocabulary words for this unit are under Class stuff (Team Spirit)
In the blink of an eye our first 9 weeks are over. We are almost through our 2nd unit of reading and fall has circled her arms around us. It was good to see everyone at the conferences and I couldn't be more proud of all that we have accomplished so far this year. The kids are great and make coming to work each day a joy.
We will no longer do Reading Logs. I have removed the link from our Class Stuff column. From here on out they will have to read 25 books and take a test on the computer to accumulate 25 points. Some it will be very easy for and some who are still making progress in reading will have some difficulty. If ever you want to come up and take your child to the library to read a short book and take a test, your more than welcome to.
This month we have our reading counts Assembly on Wednesday October 21st 0900-0930. We would really love for all moms and dads to come out and watch us as we celebrate our accomplishment. Each student in class accomplished our goal and will be recognized. Feel free to come and take pictures if you like.
Secondly we have Goal day on the 26th. This will be a family day where we encourage you to come and have a picnic style lunch with your son or daughter and then come on into the classroom to watch us learn and talk about our goals.

Our First Fun Friday

I'd like to begin Mystery Readers the first week of September, so if you would, please check under our Class Stuff column for more information. Come on Dad's/Mom's this is an excellent chance to get a few minutes off from work (What Commander wouldnt support a dad/mom reading to his son/daughter's class) and come in and read with us. The kids LOVE IT!!
We will continue to refresh our phonics and EOY Kindergarten skills this week. Please have your child study the popcorn words. You can dpownload them from our class stuff column.on the right. These are words they learned and talked about in Kindergarten but many need refresher.
We will begin our first reading story the week of the 24th. We will also begin Homework and Spelling tests that week
