What's Happening in Ms. R's First Grade Class in Room 127 for November 2009

Reminders

Thanks to all the parents who attended the Family Day and went to activities with your child.  Thanks also to parents who donated food and drink items for our fall celebration!

Be sure you child has the appropriate clothing for school.  Since the weather is getting cooler, the children will need to wear jackets, and they will wear those when we go out for recess.

Reading and Writing Skills/Spelling

We are working in our third book " Team Spirit".  We will be finishing up that book at the end of December before the Christmas holiday and we will test over the skills and vocabulary taught and learned and in that book. Spelling tests will continue until Christmas. After Christmas words will increase to 10 and we will also have a dictation sentence where the children apply the spelling skills they have learned!

Science or Health or Social Studies

We will have units on animals and where they live, the human body, the senses, and taking care of ther body, and Pilgrims and Native Americans.

Math

In math, we will work on graphings and counting numbers to 100, with patterns and skip-counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.

For Reading Counts, the last day for points is December 17 with at least 25 points and 80% accuracy on tests!  So far I have one student who is very close to the 25 and several others right behind them!  I'm very pleased so far!  Keep reading!

The Book It! sheet for this month is a turkey.  When children have read ten books, return the sheet to me and they will receive a certificate for a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut!  I record their months of reading on a chart, and I am hoping for more participation in November!

Students can bring in Box Tops for PTO.  They will be collected this Friday.  Classes that collect the most boxtops will be rewarded!!!
