Reminders: November is a very busy month.
Nov. 5 Native American activities
Nov. 7 Honor Roll Assembly
Nov. 12 Zoo field trip - a science field study
Nov. 19 Artist in residence - fiber artist - goes along with our Colonial unit in Social Studies.
Homework:
Reading: Your child should read 30 minutes each night. The standard is that each 5th grade student reads 25 books in a year.
Math: Work with your child on basic math skills. Give them problems that relate to what you may be doing. Show them how important math is in everyday life.Work with your student on their multiplication tables frequently.
Social Studies: Students completed and presented their projects on explorers. Many did a lot of research and compiled them into reports, presented their finding, and drew a portrait of their explorer.
We have also talked a lot about the elections. The 5th and 6th grade had a pararde and showed support for their candidates the day before the mock election at Pinckney. The election was a great sucess with Sen. Obama winning. It will be interesting to see if our election mirrors the general election.
We will begin our studies of Colonial America for the next several weeks.
