Food Services
Cafeterias operate in all Fort Knox schools and serve nutritious breakfasts and lunches.
Meal prices are subject to change by action of either the FKCS Food and Nutrition Services Coordinator or the FKCS Board of Education. This action may happen at any time during the year without prior notice. Current meal prices are as follows:
- Full Price Student Breakfast: $1.40 Adults: $2.00
- Full Price Student Lunch: $2.00 Adults: $2.75
- Reduced Price Student Breakfast: $.30
- Reduced Price Student Lunch: $.40
For each student, the Food and Nutrition Services Office creates a meal account. This account is entered into the cafeteria computer with appropriate information regarding meal category status. Parents have the responsibility to ensure adequate funds are available in the meal accounts at all times to avoid negative balances. Parents who prefer their child not have an account and instead pay cash daily should notify the Food and Nutrition Services Office by mail. The Food Services Accounts Clerk will inform the appropriate school.
Each student with a meal account will be issued a unique Personal Identification Number. The student will be required to memorize the PIN. A roster will be available for number look-up until the student learns the PIN.
Parents are encouraged to complete an application for free or reduced priced meals. A new application is required for each school year. Only one application is required per family. A family that has not filed a new application by September 10 automatically will be converted to full-price status. On the application, all family members’ names must be listed, and the name of the school each child attends must be indicated. (Names of children receiving free or reduced price meals are kept confidential.) To obtain the application form, click here (PDF). Mail or bring the completed application to:
Food and Nutrition Services Office
Crittenberger Building 4553
281 Fayette Avenue
Fort Knox, KY 40121-6201
To receive notification of the application results by electronic mail, include your e-mail address on the application.
The Food and Nutrition Services Office implements the following policies:
- Returned checks -- Upon receipt of the first returned check, a $25 service charge will be added to the amount of the check written, and the returned check must be paid in cash and picked up in the Food and Nutrition Services Office. If a second check is returned, all check-writing privileges are suspended for six months. When the check is redeemed, a $25 fee will be added to the amount of the check. Should a wage garnishment need to be filed to redeem a returned check, then check-writing privileges are suspended indefinitely.
- Competitive foods regulation -- Selling or serving any food or beverage item to students in competition with the school breakfast or lunch program is prohibited on the school campus during the school day until 30 minutes after the close of the last lunch serving period. This prohibition includes any fast food items brought by parents. Parents are invited to eat breakfast or lunch with their children at any time.
- Charged meals - - A student may charge up to seven meals after the meal account balance is zero. The seventh meal charge will generate a delinquent postcard notice with 10 days suspense to make payment and may not include any additional charges. Before this final notice, the parent should have received student reminder notices for payment. These notices are printed each week on Tuesday and Thursday by the cafeteria manager and provided to homeroom teachers at the schools, except the high school receives verbal notice. If these collection methods are unsuccessful, the Food and Nutrition Services Office will process a wage garnishment against the sponsor for current balance and a $25 service fee.
Parents with questions may call 502.624.2345.
- Meal account balance -- Parents may obtain the balance by phoning either the applicable school during non-serving periods or the Food and Nutrition Office at 624-2345, ext. 10. In addition, a parent who wants to establish an e-mail exchange with the child’s meal account may phone the cafeteria manager. The appropriate e-mail will be provided as a personal service. The following are cafeteria numbers:
FKHS: 4-7035 Scott: 4-5588
Mudge: 4-6724 Pierce: 4-6342

- Payment online -- Parents may enroll at Lunchprepay.com [external link] and manage their child's account online by making payments, reviewing balances, and observing the child's meal history. Parents may pay by check, set up automatic payments, and use both their checking and savings accounts. Once a parent has registered online, the parent will need the child's 10-digit number, which can be obtained from the Food and Nutrition Office or from the applicable cafeteria.
