Mastery Learning

At Pierce Primary, we use Mastery Learning to provide higher quality and more appropriate instruction for our students. This process is based on the theory that all students can learn quite well and master any subject under favorable learning conditions. This is not a new theory for the Pierce staff, but a systematic attempt to implement the process mre consistently throughout the school year and across grade levels. The basic steps involved in Mastery Learning are:

  1. Classroom teacher establishes learning objectives.
  2. Instruction is provided.
  3. Formal and/or informal assessment is completed.
  4. Feedback, teaching, and/or enrichment activities are provided.
  5. Further assissment is completed.

This process is repeated until the student has obtained a mastery level of 80% of the intended learning.
