FROM MRS. GIBSON: The Fresh Fruits and Vegetables grant has been very successful thus far this school year. I would like to update you on some of the activities related to it.
- Each grade level had a Celebration activity where they tasted a variety of fruits and vegetables. They even got to sample healthy dips for their foods. They exercised to music and had a wonderful time with their peers.
- We will be asking for each class to submit a healthy recipe or two for our school-wide cookbook. This will be an effort we will be organizing after the winter break.
- We have measured each student’s Body Mass Index and will have more detailed information for you about this in our next newsletter.
- We had a demonstration by a nutritionist of healthy snack recipes in third grade Celebration. She will be making similar demonstrations in the Celebrations for the other grade levels later in the school year.
- Students will be taking a tour of the school cafeteria after the winter break to learn about proper food storage.
We hope your student has been able to try a few new healthy snacks and has learned the importance of a healthy, balanced approach to eating and exercise.
