Registration Information

Required Documents for DDESS Eligibility and Registration

All DoDEA students must have a current DoDEA Form 600 completed and signed annually by the sponsor (or spouse with valid POA).  

New students registering for enrollment in DDESS schools in CONUS are required to provide verification of the following:

  • Date of Birth
  • Dependent Status
  • Active Duty Status of Military Sponsor
  • On-base Housing Assignment

Documents that may be used for verification of information:
Date of Birth

  • Certified copy of birth certificate (copy will be retained for the file) Pre-Kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade students will not be provisionally registered without a certified birth certificate.
  • Child's passport or Visa (A passport does not prove relationship to the sponsor so additional relationship documents must be provided).

SY 2008-2009
Pre-Kindergarten students must be 4 years old by October 1.
Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by October 1.
First grade students must be 6 years old by October 1.


SY 2009-2010
Pre-Kindergarten students must be 4 years old by September 1.
Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by September 1.
First grade students must be 6 years old by September 1.

Dependent Status

  • Sponsor is listed as biological parent on child’s birth certificate
  • Child is listed on military sponsor’s orders
  • Sponsor is named on child’s military ID
  • Approved DEERS registration form
  • If the sponsor is a step-parent, and one of the above cannot be provided, the following is required:
    • Child’s birth certificate documenting sponsor’s spouse is biological parent
    • Custody documents indicating spouse has full custody of child
    • Marriage certificate of sponsor and child’s biological parent
  • If neither the sponsor nor spouse are the biological parents of the child, court ordered custody or guardianship documents are required (power of attorney or notarized agreements between biological parents and sponsor are NOT accepted).
  • Note: If court order names only the spouse as guardian or custodian of the child, the sponsor will be required to complete and sign an in loco parentis affidavit (available from the school registrar).

Active Duty Status of Military Sponsor

  • Current orders (less than 3 years old)
  • Sponsor's active duty identification card (copy of picture side will be retained in the file)
  • Current deployment orders

Verification of Housing

  • Lease agreement from Knox Hills housing office.
  • Letter from Knox Hills housing office that housing will be available and offered within 180 school days.  (If sponsor declines housing, removes his/her name from the housing list, or purchases and/or leases off-base housing with the intent to decline on-base housing if offered, the eligibility rights of the children to attend DDESS schools ceases IMMEDIATELY and the sponsor is obligated to inform the school of the change and to transfer the children to the local school district.)

Notes:    This list is not all inclusive and is subject to modification without notice based on regulatory changes.  It is always advisable to check with the registrar at the school or district office prior to registration for the most current requirements.

One day of processing records may be required before student may attend school.

The school office is open year round.  Parents are encouraged to visit school and register students as soon as possible.

*  Provide a copy of previous school records indicating grade placement and any documentation in special programs such as gifted/talented, speech, special education resource, etc.

You MUST have the following included in the Registration Packet BEFORE it can be turned in to the school office.

  • Copy of birth certificate (original, office will make a copy)
  • DoDEA Immunization Certificate
  • School Physical
  • Vision Exam
  • Housing Form
  • DoDEA Form 600 (available at the school office or on this website)
  • Records from former schools.

Pre-K students will not begin coming to school for class until AFTER a the teacher has visited with the child's parents.  Pre-K teachers will contact parents by telephone to make appointments for classroom visits.  The teacher will inform the parent during the visit as to what day they should begin bringing their child for class.
