Test-Taking Strategies | Terra-Nova Testing - a word from our Counselor |
Several Assessment measures are used by DoDEA to assess our students.
- Fourth Grade is given the Balanced Assessment in Mathematics (BAM; a criterion referenced assessment), Terra Nova Performance Assessment: Communication Arts (a criterion-referencd assessment) and NAEP ( National Assessment for Educational Progress; a standardized test).
- Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade take an online Criterion-referenced assessment each spring. The Sixth Graders are tested on Social Studies; The Fifth Graders are tested on Science.
- All grade levels are given the Terra Nova Multiple Testing( CBTS). TerraNova is a standardized test published by the CTB Corporation. It is administered annually to DoDEA students in grades 3-11.
WHY?
Both standard and criterion-referenced assessments are used to monitor student achievement and also to evaluate system-wide progress towards meeting the goals of the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan.
Specifically, standardized assessments are designed to see how well our students perform compared to other students the same age throughout the nation. While, criterion-referenced assessments indicate how well students are performing based on the DoDEA Curriculum Standards.
