Project Achieve, the Stop and Think Program, provides opportunities for students to receive recognition for making good choices and doing the right thing while developing valuable life skills. Our faculty and staff have received extensive training from the program's developer, Dr. Howard Knoff from the University of South Florida. Students are given lessons on problem solving, social skills, and how to make good choices. Then the students participate in role-playing activities targeting these skills.
Students who do not make good choices are sent to "Stop and Think" time out either in their classroom or in another classroom. Students who repeatedly make poor choices throughout a single school day or whose poor choice is extreme will be sent to the principal for "Stop and Think" time out. Once a student is sent to the principal to "Stop and Think" and if the student continues to decide to make a poor choice, the principal will contact the student's parents and/or place the student in in/or out-of-school suspension.
Macdonald Library Information Center is open from 0900 until 1500 hrs for students as well as parents.
There are nearly 10,000 books in our collection, 225 video tapes, and 8 student magazine titles that students have to choose from for their enrichment.
Students are allowed to check out two books (one of which should be fiction) for a two week period of time. Videos are checked out on an overnight basis.
The Reading Counts Program is an important part of Macdonald's library program. The students have over 2500 titles which they can choose from to read and test over. The books vary in reading levels and subject areas. Students are encouraged to keep reading and working toward accelerating their reading levels. Various prizes and incentives are given for reaching predetermined goals in the program.
Macdonald is pleased to offer a chorus this year. The chorus will be performing at Macdonald's Veteran's Day Ceremony on Nov. 9th, at an in-school Winter Holiday concert, at a FKHS basketball game, and at a full-school musical in May. The MIDI (.mid) files that can help students in the chorus practice their parts are posted at the link below. These files are playable with Windows Media Player, Apple's Quicktime Player, and most internet browsers. Please click on this link to get to the MIDI files.

Student Council members are nominated representatives from each homeroom. Student Council officers are elected by students through a school-wide election process. Meetings of the Council are usually held in the morning before school.
Each member of the Student Council, to remain a member, must attend meetings and be active in activities sponsored by the Student Council. They hold class meeting in their homeroom at least twice a month.
The Student Council sponsors special service activities for the school and community. Participation in Student Council provides an opportunity for leadership and for the practice of the democratic process. Members learn to conduct meetings using Roberts Rules of Order. Members strive to be role models for all students.
Service to others is the reason for and the theme of the Junior Red Cross Club. Macdonald School is well known for its service to others through this club. It has brought much positive attention to the school through the many awards it has received.
One person from each home room is selected or elected to serve as the representative of the class. The Club members meet weekly to plan and to work on activities.
Some of the Club's projects include filling friendship boxes for needy children, making stuffed animals and game booklets for children in the hospital, and a variety of others. Each year one or more of the representatives is afforded the opportunity to attend a weekend leadership workshop sponsored by the Red Cross.
Macdonald Intermediate School's Art Club provides an excellent opportunity for students to participate in art activities outside the class. In the past this group has designed posters, large mosaics, clay center pieces and clay jewelry. Usually, the sponsor takes the members on an appropriate field trip toward the end of the year.
A sign-up sheet will be posted in the lobby the first week of school for those students interested in joining the Art Club.
Macdonald's Honors Assembly will be held the last week of school for the students. Its purpose is to recognize and award excellence and achievement. It is held during school so that all the students may be inspired to set personal goals for earning one or more awards and to applaud the recipients.
Students in all grades may work for no tardies and no absences. Other awards are given for outstanding achievement or service in: Red Cross Club, Chorus, Art, Scholarship, Library Service, Student Council, Faculty Academic Awards, Presidential Academic Fitness, and in other areas.
Macdonald's annual Field Day is held the last week of school. It will be held in the morning. The spirit of the day is "everyone is a winner." Our Booster Club and individual parents are great contributors to the success of the day. If parents have an interest and/or experience in helping with field events, please let our physical education teacher know. Field Day activities contribute to a memorable final day of the school year.
