New Students

Requirements for registering new students at Macdonald Intermediate School are the following:

• School office is open all summer.  Parents are encouraged to visit school and register students as soon as possible.

• Copy of original state Birth Certificate, not the hospital certificate.

• Copy of child's social security card.

• School physical for 6th grade students only.

• Kentucky Certificate of Immunization.

• Overseas, TB Skin Test needed within past 6 months.

• Copy of school records including those that indicate placement in special programs, i.e. gifted, speech, special education.

• Copy of sponsor's orders.

• If the sponsor is not the parent or step-parent, proof of guardianship and written approval from housing is required for the student to stay in quarters (For approval contact Malcolm C. Gogleman, Garrison Manager at 624-2749).

• If not assigned to quarters, written verification from the Housing Office stating quarters will be available within 90 days.

• Enrollment forms - Enrollment forms may be completed at the school and submitted.  For our new parent's convenience, we have included a link to our registration packet online.  The forms may be printed and completed before you visit our school for the first time.

School Year Calendars for 2006-2009 are available at the Fort Knox's district website.

FAQ'S

• When can I talk to my child's teacher? How do I arrange to talk to my child's teacher?
  Teachers keep their own calendars. Write a note in the agenda book requesting a conference, or call the teacher and set-up an appointment.

• How do I volunteer at the school?
  Parent volunteers are always welcome at the school. You may coordinate a volunteer schedule with your child's teacher by writing a note in his/her assignment book. Our Booster Club also coordinates parent volunteers throughout the year.

• How do I pay for my child's meals?
  Parents are encouraged to purchase twenty days' meals at a time for child. For your convenience, you may mail your payment to Food Services Department, Fort Knox Community Schools , 4553 Dixie Highway , Fort Knox , KY 40121 . Please make sure that your child's name and school are included on the check. Or you may send payment to the school with your child. Again, please make sure that your child's name and school are included on the check. Should you choose, your child may use cash daily.

• How will I know when my child's lunch account is low or overdrawn?
  The Cafeteria Manager distributes individual notices of low lunch accounts when a child has 3 days of meals left in his/her account. These notices are given to students to take home. Remind your child that he/she is responsible for giving the notices to you.

• How can I authorize someone else to pick up my child at school?
  Parents need to notify the school who may pick up their child.  Picture ID's are checked.

• How do I withdraw my child from school?
  Please let the school know as soon as possible when you have orders to leave Fort Knox. Parents are asked to notify the office at least three days in advance of departure. Copies of school records are provided upon request on the last day of attendance if notified in advance.

• What school closing information is available during inclement weather?
  The Fort Knox Community Schools are very seldom closed for inclement weather. Base operations support generallly is able to keep the primary roads open.
  School closings or delayed openings are announced on television Channel 98, on WAKY-FM 103.5 radio, and on the Fort Knox Web site at http://www.knox.army.mil.
  In the event school is dismissed early, parents are asked to inform the school office of the location they want their children sent, if it differs from the usual location.
