Media Center

The Van Voorhis Library Media Center provides a warm, inviting place for students to check out materials for recreational reading and research. Our media center has over 17,000 material titles. The Library Media Specialist will aid students, parents, and staff in selecting materials from 0800 hours to 1530 hours daily.

First through third grade classes have a free flow system of checking out books. Media Center Kindergarten classes come to the library at a scheduled time each week and are provided assistance with check-out. Children may also come to the library to read their selections. We are pleased to have a large number of "book pets" that children may sit with and "share" their books. Beanbag chairs and a reading house enhance our library to make it truly a place for kids

Van Voorhis School participates in the Scholastic Reading Counts Program. This independent reading program promotes comprehension skills of materials read. Students may find the Reading Counts books, labelled with the reading and lexile levels in the library.The Media Specialist will aid students in finding the "just right" book for them.
