Grades 3-5 Elementary Program students writing

The elementary program is based on an integral approach to learning. Reading, writing, speaking, and listening are taught both separately and throughout the day as an important part of the content area of instruction. Science and mathematics are taught through a teacher rdg to classhands-on approach, using manipulatives and scientific experiences. Attention is given to specific skills instruction in all areas of the curriculum, including reading, phonics, and math. Students also receive instruction in the fine arts (music and art) as well as physical education. The school has a media specialist who serves the children for instruction, enrichment, and research skills and also an education technologist who assists with the infusion of technology throughout the curriculum.


Special Education Programs

Special education is any specially designed instruction, support or equipment a student may need in order to reach his or her fullest potential. These services are available to eligible students, ages 3-21 years of age, within DDESS, and may include changes to the education program, commonly known as clasroom modifications. A student may also receive services in the general education classroom, a resource room, self-contained class or other appropriate setting. Special ecucation services provide the additional support or asistance your child may need to be successful.
