DDESS

(Below is an excerpt from the DDESS website on the formation of the organization.) For more detailed information, please visit the official Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools website.

The Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS) is one of two distinct educational systems operated by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).

DDESS provides comprehensive educational programs on military installations located in 7 states and Puerto Rico that are competitive with that of any school system in the United States.

DDESS operates 65 schools in 17 installations. Schools are organized into 6 districts with a total of just over 2,600 teachers serving about 29,500 students.

DDESS schools do not provide all grade level programs at every location. Where the grade level program is not offered, dependent students living on the military installations attend schools operated by the Local Education Agency in the civilian community.

Visit the Districts' and their Schools' Profiles on the DDESS Website.
