Talented and Gifted at Lejeune

"Giftedness appears in many different forms in every cultural group, at every level of society..." Quote by Passow and Frasier

Camp Lejeune Dependents Schools believes that children need a school environment that helps them realize their potential and instills in them a desire to develop their talents and abilities. To encourage optimum achievement, the schools provide varied and challenging learning opportunities matched to the needs and talents of students with high potential.

Gifted learners are children and youth with outstanding talent who perform or show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. (U.S. Department of Education, 1993).

Identification

Each school has a Gifted Review Committee. Referral of students for consideration by the Committee is completed through: screening, nomination, or transfer records. Assessment of each student is completed with parent or guardian permission. An eligibility decision for each student is made through review of the student's assessment profile. This profile includes consideration of intellectual ability, academic achievement, and artistic performance. Determination of the gifted program services for eligible students is the decision of the Gifted Review Committee.

Services

A continuum of services is available at each school, matched to the needs of gifted learners. Service options are as follows:
