In
DoDEA schools, technology is an essential component in providing
quality education for our students. Various programs are
offered that provide opportunities for students to become superior
problem-solvers, creative thinkers, effective communicators, self-directed
learners, and technology-literate citizens.
 |
Recent
research reinforced beliefs held by teachers that technology
can enhance and expand educational horizons and student performance.
Studies show that student attitudes toward learning are strengthened
when technology is integrated in the learning environment.
Technology can enhance and reinvigorate teaching and learning,
making schools richer and more exciting, interactive learning
communities for students and teachers. |
| At
CLDS, technology is a high priority.
The presence of our Educational Technologists
(ET's) is an integral component to the program
at each school.
In addition, Administrative Technologists (AT's)
serve vital functions at all locations for connectivity and
software performance.
All schools are wired for Local Area Networks (LAN's)
and Wide Area Networks (WAN's).
Internet access is available directly from the classroom.

The DoDEA Distant Learning, the North Carolina Virtual Public Schools Center, and Lejeune High School work together to provide a structured environment, distant education, distant tutoring, connectivity, and technical assistance. Lejeune HS provides a computer workstation, phone lines, and a distant learning facilitator to act as a supervisor. LHS also provides subject matter experts who are willing to assist students.
Information technology is promoting fundamental changes in how we teach and learn. Previous barriers in time and place are now overcome as technolgy offers new choices and opportunities for students worldwide. As part of our mission to provide exemplary educational programs that inspire and prepare students for success in a global environment, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Online Learning Academy has offered web-based advanced placement and non-advanced placement courses since 1986. The online courses have the same level of rigor and adhere to the same standards of the traditional DoDEA curriculum. Students engage in online classes according to the same academic calendar of their schools. But online courses have an additional benefit - they help students develop proficiency in "information age" technologies that enable a lifetime of learning and achievement.
DoDEA Distant Learning offers 18 courses, 8 AP courses, and 10 non-AP courses. A total of 56 schools are served by DoDEA!

The
CISCO program is off the ground at Lejeune High
School!
The
Cisco Networking Academy Program centers on teaching students to
design, build, and maintain computer networks. But the significance
goes well beyond the central lesson plan. Using web technologies,
the program prepares students for the 21st century workplace and
simultaneously serves as a valuable model for successful e-learning.
All students must complete a minimum of 70 hours of labs and classroom
instruction and pass the final online exam to pass CISCO's qualifications
to become a CCNA networking professional.
Semesters
1 through 4 of the Academy program (equivalent to 280 hours of instruction)
provide students with a basic foundation in networking. Students
who successfully complete this portion of the program are eligible
to earn Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
The first four semesters are available at the secondary and post-secondary
levels.
CISCO
classes run as follows at LHS:
Semester
1 - CISCO 1
Semester 2 - CISCO 2
Semester 3 - CISCO 3
Semester 4 - CISCO 4
(Students
will take a total of 2 school years to complete the program.)
Students
receive completion certificates from each semester signed by the
president of CISCO. This is a rare opportunity to receive
this training for free!
