The Gator Team will begin their service learning project next week.  The team will collect food for Pender County Humane Society as they do each year at this time.  The collection period will run from February 2- March 6.   Students will learn what it means to be a responsible pet owner.  Gator students will also look at the different jobs animals do for people each day, such as service dogs. Pender is a no kill facility and is funded by donations, fundraiser's, etc. They call Brewster their “Angels”, because we have donated food at the times they have needed it the most.  Students will create a multimedia presentation to share with the school after they meet with Members from the humane society this week.

The Nation Science Center Discovery Van at Brewster

The program, sponsored by the US Army, is a 45-minute interactive demonstration that uses numerous physical science concepts to actively engage the student in the learning process. Demonstrations with Van De Graff generators, Plasma Ball and Tesla coils are used to create "hair raising" experiences. Frequency, sound, and resonance are all explored during the exciting Electronic Glass Breaker demonstrations.  Optical illusions illustrate various functions of the eye and teach about how the brain works.  Brewster students enjoyed the playful banter with the presenters and many took part in the various high interest demonstrations.  Students left the experience with a renewed appreciation and curiosity about our physical world.
