Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to a new and exciting school year!  As part of the fourth grade curriculum, students will participate in many fun-filled activities and interesting field trips.  We believe that every child can have a successful year!  A good start begins at home.  One’s best performance requires a healthy diet and adequate sleep.  Routine and organization are also important, thus a few minutes spent each evening getting necessary items and materials packed and ready to go facilitates a calm morning and sets the stage for a productive day.

Again, welcome to Maxwell Elementary School.  We look forward to working with you this school year 2009-2010. If you have questions or concerns, you may call the school during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
at 334-953-7804.  You may leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.  We are collecting email addresses and plan to e-mail you each week with classroom happenings, dates to remember, and what we will be studying for that week in a Newsletter.  We look forward to working with each of you this school year!!

Both classes will be having snack time about 10:10 each morning. Each child should bring his/her own snack. Parents, please be sure that it is something nutritious – no candy.

Please use a permanent marker to label all supplies (individual crayons, pencils, etc.).  We will need magazines that can be cut up for an activity on Friday, so please send along any appropriate magazines you can spare in the morning.  Thanks!!

$6 for a Handwriting without Tears handwriting book-please put the money in a white envelope with your child’s name and HWT on the front.

Each year the fourth grade has an "Egg Drop" from the tower on the flight line. This year the "Egg Drop Eggstravaganza" was a real learning experience for all involved. There were some wonderfully thought out (engineered) projects and some very unique packages. H. and K. took the prizes for the most unique, from a bear climbing a tree to a balloon Frisbee. Following the drop, there was another feast – this time all egg dishes.
