District Teacher of the Year Selection

Ms. S, of Russell Elementary School, has been selected as the 2009 NY/VA/PR District Teacher of the Year. Ms. S is a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Russell Elementary School which is located on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. Ms. S has a keen focus on the individual needs of students. She makes learning fun for her students and uses standards and formative assessment to guide her instruction with her developing students. She is also acutely aware of her role on the Russell staff and implements the school improvement strategies that support the writing and problem solving goals at the school. She is enthusiastic about teaching bringing energy to her classrooms that opens the doors of learning. Perhaps most importantly, Ms. S is warm, compassionate, and caring for her students; taking them from their individual developmental level of learning and bringing them forward.

As the NY/VA/PR District Teacher of the Year, Ms. S embodies all that is right about teaching and learning and will fully represent all of the teachers in the District at the DoDEA-wide competition.
