What Can You Do If You Can't Read? Nothing!

First grade is an exciting year.  The children read everything:  basals, journals, trade books, literature, both fiction and non fiction. Our reading includes all of our subject areas:  math, science, social studies and language arts.  Writing, an integral part of reading instruction, is stressed throughout.

Attendance

Please call the school office to notify us when your child is going to be absent.  Upon his/her return, please send a note.

Volunteers

Classroom volunteers are encouraged and welcomed!  If you would like to share some of your time with us, please let me know.

Grading

The grading scale for first grade is as follows:

• E: Exceeds Grade Level Expectations
  M: Meets Grade Level Expectations
  S: Steady Progress Toward Grade Level Expectations
  L: Limited Progress Toward Grade Level Expectations

Homework

Homework is generally assigned four times per week, Monday through Thursday, and should take approximately 10 minutes.  If your child's homework seems too difficult, or is taking longer than it should to complete, please let me know!
